| Chinese Hypocrisy: What a Shame! (History) |

Dear Mr. Lau: Undoubtedly, you are a person of keen intellect and analytical thinking. Your understanding of post liberation, communist ruled China, is accurate and insightful. However, you missed the most important point of all; Chinese brand of righteousness based on its own needs. Though hypocritical, mainland Chinese are well schooled in their self-serving form of consciousness. It is not that Chinese youths and their manipulators are ignorant of recent historical atrocities committed by those (Mao, Deng, the Gang of Four and others) who wielded administrative powers, rather it is their extreme love of one self and materialism that drive them to an extreme state. During the 1980's and 90's, China needed foreign investments, technologies and know-hows. The policy of China and the attitude of its people were that "China stinks and the Japs and other foreigners are good!". Then, Chinese youths would sell their souls to work as a fourth rate clerk in a Jap company. It is no coincidence that many of the same youths, their parents or siblings were shamelessly praising the Gang of Four, Mao and other political demagogues who were committing great crime against inhumanities; matter of fact, most Chinese then could not understand Mao in his heavy hunanese accent, but none had dared to openly object. This and other examples highlight the selfish, small mindedness of the cultural revolution inspired Chinese Ethos. Today, Mainland youths are full of anger, hypocritical pride and an errant view of China, Japan and their place in a rapidly changing world. Chinese youths are spiraling down the path of self-destruction, driven by greed, jealousy, hate and pride. I see them demanding justice for crimes committed some 70+ years ago from a nation that has been transformed into a democratic and free society; one that embraces the rule of law, human rights and world peace. Japan has made amends for its past sins through its involvement in many worthwhile initiatives to better our world and global citizenship. At the same time, China oppresses its own people, suppresses freedom and religion and perpetuates corruption, injustice, pollution and social ills. Why don't Chinese youths channel their energy to make China a better place, expecially for for those less fortunate than themselves? There are roughly 900 million people who lives at or below the subsistance level in China; there are children of migrant families who are declined basic education, medical care and social support only because they are poor. There are enormous oppression of the weak or defenseless by those who have administrative powers or influences. Why the youths of China do not come to their aid or to speak up for those who can not fight for themselves? It seems that the angry young men of China will only stand up when it pleases the powers to be. Their voice is loud only when it curries favors and is popular. What a shame! Mr. Lau, your analysis is correct. I've only attempted to add a sense of the motivation behind such an obivious form of self-serving hypocrisy. Best Regards to you, Yan_Sum
